Flat Earth

deprogramming the masses since 1547

April 24 - May 30, 2004

This exhibition takes it title and inspiration from The Flat Earth Society, whose unconventional views seem to conflict with the world we think we know. Each artist uses a non-traditional 2-dimensional format to depict the complexities of our four dimensional existence.

Artists:

Jonathan Bucci, a Washington, DC artist, uses earnest construction materials to confound the line between painting and sculpture. These floor-based tactile "paintings" are reminiscent of topographical maps or plate tectonics.

Brandon Morse, also based in DC, uses cutting-edge digital technologies to model and mimic complex atmospheric events and then projects the results on room-sized screens.

Julia Pearson, a recent Baltimore transplant, presents large format photographs, suspended in the space, depicting the architectural planes of a post-industrial wasteland.
